At MVDS Inc., our primary business focus is database systems. We work with the client to define business and systems requirements. We ensure that the design concept is solid, and that the specifications are detailed and accurate. We produce a design document that we can implement in-house or with our network of associate programmers. On projects where the programming is contracted under the control of the client, we act as liaison and project manager to ensure timely delivery of a product that meets both client specifications and budgetary constraints.

Our core specialty is data modeling. With this service, we bridge the gap between the business and technical worlds. Data modeling is the design of a functional information structure that makes the storehouse of data within your company usable and accessible. It is analogous to the creation of an architectural blueprint to meet the special needs of a family. Without it, companies are limited in their ability to both know and track what data they have and to make it easily accessible in a relevant format to those who need it to do their job.
 
There are always many ways to meet the challenge of organizing data into a functioning database. MVDS uses data modeling to limit these options to those that will fit with and assist, rather than impede, the operations of the client company. It allows us to reflect the business requirements of a company in the design of the database from the start. MVDS understands businesses and their needs as much as it understands the technical process of creating a database. It is this broad–based competence that sets us apart.

We work with SQL Server solutions, including requirements analysis, design, development, implementation, administration, performance tuning, and individualized training. We offer educational services, including customized classes in Data Modeling and Microsoft SQL Server 2000. We also offer consulting services in Windows NT and Windows 2000 installations, configuration, and maintenance. One of our principals has taught for many years at the University of Denver, Information Systems Division; the other is a Microsoft Certified Trainer and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer.

MVDS Inc. was formed in June 1990, for the purpose of providing database solutions to the oil and gas exploration industry. Since that time, our focus has expanded to include many other industries, including but not limited to education, real estate, and telecommunications. The principals of MVDS Inc. have been involved in the information systems industry for a combined time of over 50 years. They have experience on everything from mainframes to mid-range to personal computers. They have worked with many relational databases, including Oracle, Ingres, Adabas, Progress, FoxPro, Access, and Microsoft SQL Server. Since 1995, they have concentrated on SQL Server solutions, including design, development, administration, performance tuning, and training.

In 2000 the principals co-authored their third database book, SQL Server 2000 Design and T-SQL Programming (Osborne, 2001, ISBN 0-07-212375-3), . They are Contributing Editors for SQL Server Magazine (Penton Publications), and author the monthly column “Solutions By Design”.
